- Complete electrical first fix – cable routes, wiring for the individual flats, communal areas and preparation of the main power supply
On this apartment building project in Leverkusen, Germany, we successfully completed the entire first phase of the electrical installation work. A project of this scale required precise planning, a high pace of work, working to strict German standards (DIN/VDE) and perfect logistics, as the infrastructure for several separate residential units had to be prepared in a coordinated way at the same time.
Work carried out as part of the project
- Setting out and routing to the construction drawings Precise marking out and planning of the lighting circuits, switches, sockets and high-power outlets for the kitchens in every single flat, including the communal areas and corridors.
- Cutting chases and fitting back boxes Careful cutting of cable chases into the masonry and drilling of the holes for the boxes. On this project we used deep back boxes, which will give future tradespeople enough room for the final second fix.
- Running the main and flat cabling Laying the power cables (NYM-J sheathed cable) in conduit along the floors and in the ceiling structures. In parallel, we also installed the complete extra-low-voltage cabling – UTP data cables for high-speed internet to every flat, TV cabling and provision for door entry systems.
- Provision for modern technology Bringing out cable routes for electric blinds/roller shutters, provision for underfloor heating and ventilation/heat recovery to the project specifications.
- Infrastructure for the main and flat distribution boards Bringing all cable routes from the individual rooms to the locations of the future flat distribution boards. The main risers were reliably brought all the way to the central plant room with the building's main distribution board. All cables were clearly labelled and marked.
Result
The first fix for the entire apartment building was handed over in a clean condition, keeping precisely to the construction programme. The whole building was one hundred per cent ready for the next construction phases – pouring the floor screeds and applying the internal plaster.
